Dog Names

How did you name your dogs? I’ve been asked this question many times from my friends or even people on the street . Have you?

This is my story…

I adopted two dogs in 2009. They are Chihuahua mix twin sisters and came to my place right before Thanksgiving Day. Sasha and Bambi; they already had their names before I met them.

The black one is Sasha and the brown one is Bambi. Bambi had a different name before “Bambi”, it was Ruby. Someone who found them on the street, named them Sasha and Ruby. After they were take to a shelter, the staffs there changed Ruby into Bambi. Looking at her, they thought she looked like a little deer.

It is very exciting to name your dog(s) and gives us lots of joys to think about the right name. In the meantime, when I called them by their original names, Sasha and Bambi, both of them seemed to be feeling very comfortable. So I decided to use the both names. Plus these names sound like presenting how they are very well.

Sasha is a bit shy and timid but she is such an athlete. She runs very fast and climbs up very high step. However she is so scared to get into an elevator. Here comes Bambi; she acts like a boy and very protective. On the contrary, she’s very smart and such a quick learner. She only needs 3~5 times of practices to learn basic actions. In the meantime, Sasha needs at least 3 times of Bambi does.

Bambi sometimes bitches dogs on the street. She doesn’t mind how big they are; one day, she aggressively barks at even Great Dane. The Great Dane’s person was laughing and said to her, “how brave you are, little pup!!” Since then I sometimes joke in calling her “BB” (Bitchy Bambi) but I mean a sweet bitchy one.

See, my story is nothing special to anyone. But these names, Sasha and Bambi mean just so precious to me. It’s not necessary to have very exciting or beautiful story behind your dog’s name to impress other people. Because no matter what, the name means a lot you and you cherish it forever.
