Dog Days

The dog days of summer are upon us, at least they are here in the Northern Hemisphere.  Temperatures are rising, and it’s not just dogs who are feeling the heat.

Many of us are looking for ways to cool off and relax a little bit; and it is at this point of the year where we may be getting a case of the summer time blues.

La Maison de Puppy has developed 9 Ways to Beat Dog Days:

1.     Look at this cutie pie:

"I am  tired, let’s nap in the shade a bit. Is that OK?"

2.     Make some frozen treats for you and your four legged friends

       *  Take your favorite yogurt flavor and fill an ice cube tray with it—these are for you

      *  Take some plain flavored yogurt and mix with a small amount of peanut butter or broth and fill another ice cube tray—this is for your pooch.

3.     Take your DFF (Dog Friend Forever) to a dog park with a water feature.  Most pups love to play in the water and will love getting their paws wet.                        Don’t forget to take your camera, there is bound to be plenty of doggy photo ops.

4.     Volunteer or donate at your local pet shelter.  These places can always use extra hands and extra food.  You might even take some frozen treats with you!

5.     Get ready for fall!  It’s just around the corner, and if you haven’t had a look at our latest fashions you are missing out.

6.     Even though the temperatures might be hitting triple digits it’s still important for your doggie to get plenty of exercise and recreation.  Try taking night walks or going early in the morning.

With this beautiful leash and collar set, "Braided Joys", you’ll be ready for the night life no matter where it takes you

7.     Stay hydrated, and keep plenty of fresh water on hand.  Pups need water to drink, and many benefit from a place to play in the water.

  Make a Pup-tini

8.     Turn on the AC, close the blinds, and watch a classic movie with your fuzzy buddy.  La Maison de Puppy favorites include:

       * Lady and The Tramp

       * The Sandlot (who doesn’t love Hercules, AKA The Beast?)

9.     Make a delicious smelling canine spritz to help cool your pooch and prevent hot spots

        * In a small spray bottle, combine 1 cup of water with two drops of Lavender Essential Oil and one drop of Mint Essential Oil.
